2 Samuel 22
David spoke to the Lord a song of praise and thankfulness.
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust…”
2 Samuel 23
David speaks his last words and lists his 37 might men.
2 Samuel 24
The Lord grew angry against Israel and moved David to number the people of Israel and Judah.
Joab is counting for 9 months and 20 days.
Israel had 800,000 valiant men and Judah had 500,000 men.
David’s heart condemns him for counting the people.
The Lord gives him three options to choose from; seven years of famine, fleeing 3 months from his enemies, or a plague in Israel for 3 days.
David says that he does not want to be delivered into the hands of man, but the Lord’s.
The Lord sends a plague on the land killing 70,000 men.
David says he has sinned and asks that the Lord’s hand be upon him and his family, not all of Israel.
David goes to Araunah’s threshing floor to erect an altar for the Lord by Gad’s instructions.
David come and Araunah offers the threshing floor for free.
David says he will not offer sacrifices to the Lord with what costs me nothing.
David purchases the floor and oxen for 50 shekels and offers burnt and peace offerings to the Lord.
The plague is withdrawn from Israel.
