1 Kings 3-5

1 Kings 3
Solomon marries the daughter of Pharaoh.
The people are sacrificing on the high places because there is no temple built.
Solomon loved the Lord and followed the statutes of his father, except he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places. [Why is this a problem?]
The Lord comes to Solomon in a dream and offers him anything he wants.
Solomon asks for wisdom.
The Lord gives him wisdom and blesses him more abundantly with long life, riches, victory over enemies, etc.
Two harlots come to Solomon for a judgment about who is the mother of the baby.
Solomon shows his wisdom in deciding whose the living baby was.

1 Kings 4
King Solomon’s officials are named.
Solomon had 12 governors who provided food for his household one month of the year.
Israel is very prosperous under Solomon’s rule.
Their was peace in Israel with Solomon.
Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs, 1,005 songs and spoke about fish, animals, birds, and trees.
Solomon was known for his wisdom worldwide.

1 Kings 5
Solomon sends a message to Hiram, king of Tyre saying how his father was not able to build a house for the Lord because of the wars.
Solomon wishes to build a house for the Lord and asks Hiram to cut him timber for the building.
Solomon paid Hiram well year by year.
Solomon created a labor force of 30,000 from Israel.
