1 Samuel 4
Israel went to war with the Philistines.
Israel has the Ark of the Covenant moved from Shiloh to the place of battle so that it will help them win.
The Philistines were victorious, killed the two sons of Eli, and captured the Ark of the Covenant.
A messenger returns to Shiloh and tells Eli that Israel is losing, his sons are dead, and the Ark had been captured.
Eli falls off his chair breaking his neck and dies.
Phineas's wife is with child and delivers the child when she hears the news.
The child is named Ichabod because she said the glory has departed from Israel because the Ark had been captured.
1 Samuel 5
The Philistines put the Ark by their god Dagon.
In the morning the idol is face down on the ground with no head or hands.
The people are plagued by tumors from the Lord.
They move the Ark to Gath.
The tumors follow to the next city it is brought, Ekron.
The people say they do not want it and to return if because it only brings destruction.
1 Samuel 6
The Philistines have the Ark for 7 months and decide to return it to Israel with an offering.
The Ark is returned in the field of Joshua in Beth Shemesh.
Kirjath Jearim takes the Ark.
1 Samuel 7
Eleazar, the son of Abinadab, is consecrated to keep the Ark of the Lord.
Samuel judges Israel.
Samuel tells Israel to put away the idols and serve God only.
The people pray to God and He gives victory over the Philistines who were about to attack.
The Philistines did not come into the land of Israel anymore.
Samuel judges Israel for all the days of his life, judging in Bethel, Gilgal, Mizpah, and Ramah, his home.
1 Samuel 8
When Samuel became old, he made his sons, Joel and Abijah, judge Israel.
His sons were not like their father; taking bribed, perverting justice.
Israel demands a king and ask Samuel to choose one.
The Lord tells Samuel that Israel may have a king but be warned what the king will do to them.
The king will take a tenth of your grain, sheep, and vintage. He will take your men as officers and daughters as bakers and so on.
The people decide they still want a king despite Samuels warnings.
