1 Samuel 1
Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah.
Peninnah has sons but Hannah did not.
They went yearly to sacrifice to the Lord in Shiloh.
Elkanah gave Peninnah a portion for her and her sons and gave Hannah a double portion because he loved her even thought she was barren.
Hannah prayed to God asking for a son saying she will give him back to to Him.
Hannah had a son and named him Samuel because she had asked for him from the Lord.
When Hannah had weened Samuel, she brought him to work in the temple.
1 Samuel 2
Hannah prays to the Lord thanking Him for what he has done fore her in giving her a son.
The sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, are corrupt.
Samuel ministered before the Lord in a linen ephod.
Hannah would make Samuel a robe and bring it to him each year.
Eli hears that his sons are evil.
The Lord says he will kill Eli's evil sons and raise up a faithful priest who will do the Will of the Lord.
1 Samuel 3
Samuel ministered under Eli's instruction.
One night the Lord called out to Samuel, so Samuel went to Eli because he thought he had called him.
This happens 3 times.
Eli tells Samuel to respond to the Lord next time.
Samuel says, "Speak, for Your servant hears."
The Lord tells Samuel that He will work against the house of Eli because of his two wicked sons.
Samuel tells Eli all that the Lord said.
Samuel grew and the Lord was with him.
Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord.
